The industrial tradition of Upper Palatinate is hundreds of years old. Today, the region offers a modern economic environment with outstanding examples for innovative products, state-of-the-art production technologies and an extraordinary capable service industry.

But success doesn't come of its own volition. Many people in Upper Palatinate have always been very industrious, and they still are. You will be surprised to find out how many global market leaders come from Upper Palatinate. Upper Palatinate is one of the model regions in Bavaria for biotechnology, renewable energies, environmental technologies, IT security, mechatronics and sensor systems.

The re-discovery of old economic connections to our Eastern neighbours was very positive for the economic development in recent years. After the Iron Curtain fell, the old trade route from Paris to Prague and Moscow, also know as "the Golden Street", flourished again. The new motorway junction A6/A93 close to Wernberg-Köblitz is located right in the middle of Upper Palatinate. This important junction will help the region to strengthen its positions as a "gate to the East" and to become even more attractive for companies which need East-West competence to intensify their economic relationships.

Upper Palatinate is not only a powerful business location. The region offers a great variety of leisure activities: Water skiing on the lakes of the "Oberpfälzer Seenland", diving, canoe tours on the rivers Naab and Regen, mountain biking, trekking or climbing in the mountains or skiing in the Bavarian Forest. Many romantic castles, a great landscape and culinary specialities like carp, wild boar and a large selection of beer (more than 500 different types) are waiting to be discovered.
